Osprey are large fish-eating raptors common
in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Reaching 24 inches in length with a 6-foot wing span, the osprey can tolerate a large
variety of habitats and will nest near bodies of water that provide adequate food supplies.
Osprey can easily
be identified by their unique wing shape, featuring a distinct kink at the elbow when they fly. Their hunting stance
of hovering above the water, followed by their head-first plunge as they stalk the fish, is also a breath-taking sight.
This piece was carved from butternut and completed in the Spring of 2009. It features an adult osprey
holding a brook trout in it's talons.
